Who are we?

We are St. Jude's Players, the amateur dramatics group based in the St. Jude's Theatre at the Social Hall, Harvest Road, Englefield Green, Egham, Surrey, U.K. We were formed in 1957, and have produced pantomimes and plays every year since then. We have full theatre facilities there and we can accommodate an audience of up to 168 devotees.

In addition to our amateur dramatics activity, we also manage and maintain The Social Hall at Englefield Green for and on behalf of the local community. Click here to see the website of The Social Hall at Englefield Green.

Diary 2008

Here is our 2008 programme which includes something to meet everybody's interests - not only aspiring actors and actresses, but also musicians, scenery builders and painters, back-stage staff, producers, directors, lighting and sound buffs, box-office, and not forgetting front-of-house and tea-makers!!

Join us!!

Are you looking for something more out of life? Is the thought of another evening in front of the telly getting you down?  If so, St Jude’s Players could be the answer!

We are a local amateur drama group based in Englefield Green and we are always happy to welcome new members. Whether you want to act, direct, sing, dance, choreograph, help backstage, do lighting or sound, help with front-of house/box office, paint scenery…. or just make the tea (!) we’d like to hear from you – there’s plenty for everyone to get their teeth into!

We usually perform 2/3 productions a year (depending on availability of members); a play in the Spring and/or something of a musical nature in the Summer and our legendary pantomime in early December. Our ultimate aim is to HAVE FUN – and if the audience enjoy themselves, too – so much the better!

We’re a friendly, sociable bunch and we can be found rehearsing in the St. Jude's Theatre in the Social Hall in Harvest Road, Englefield Green or at The Old Cricket Pavilion, Cooper’s Hill (near the RAF Memorial in Englefield Green) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8pm-approx. 10pm for the 3 months prior to each production. There are also usually a few willing participants down the pub after rehearsals for a quick drink and chat, too! (We use “The Sun” pub on the corner of Kings Lane & Wick Lane, near Saville Gardens).

We also meet there informally on the first Monday evening of each month to catch up with what’s happening – particularly useful for those not directly involved in the current production!

We also construct scenery and props on Sunday mornings at the Pavilion followed by a drink/lunch at “The Sun” (......bit of a theme emerging here, isn’t there?!)

We’re a very “hands-on” group and all members are encouraged to pull together to ensure each production is a success – it’s a real TEAM EFFORT but always well worth it!

We are also very proud of the fact that we have been running the Englefield Green Social Hall on behalf of the community since 1997 (something we undertook in order to stop the council closing it down) and continue to make cosmetic and structural improvements to the benefit of all users.

After joining us as a member, maintain contact with your SJP friends by signing up with the St. Jude's Players Yahoo group e-mail system. This is a service that SJP has set up via the web-services company “Yahoo”.  The service allows you to receive our regular e-Newsletters. It also enables you to send an email to the group address: St_Judes_Players@yahoogroups.com and the message will automatically go to all SJP members who are set up as part of the group. 

If you would like to receive SJP Newsletters and e-mails in this way, then please subscribe to our Yahoo Group by sending a blank e-mail, by clicking here. You will then receive an e-mail from the SJP Group Moderator confirming your subscription. Then, so that we know you are now part of the group, please send a test email to the group address St_Judes_Players@yahoogroups.com confirming that you have registered. 

E-Mail address updates:

In the event of you, as a member of SJP, needing to update your e-mail details with our Yahoo Group because you have changed your e-mail address, you will need to unsubscribe your existing e-mail address on the system, and replace it with the new one.
